Lee Shu Fung, David
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Being a doctor is my dream from childhood. This isbecause mum has a frail health. Since I was a boy, she often gets sick and she has a heart disease. I have long been hoping to help mum with her health so that she will not suffer again. Besides, the terrible outcome of the outbreak of SARS in 2003 reassured my decision. I realized
how destructive diseases are. Practicing medicine is undoubtedly the way to defend against the ever growing variety of illnesses. I want to be a doctor. I want to be one of these life-saving soldiers.Practicing medicine is not an easy task. I would try my best to acquire the profound knowledge in this profession. Not only will I study hard in the university, but I will also keep myself updated with the ever
improving world of medicine to get rid of the weed and keep the flower of the leek. By providing the best treatments to my patients, I hope they would suffer less and recover as soon as possible. I aim at bringing hope to society and I will put my very effort in my career to
serve the community.
Martin Ku
Bachelor of Science
The University of Hong Kong
There are two major goals in my life.
The first one is to make more opportunities for the poor people in Hong Kong. I have been very fortunate
that I can receive education with good quality even though there are great difficulties in my family. I understand that what really matters to poor people is an opportunity to become successful. I truly believe that I should contribute to my society such that there would be
more opportunities to develop for the next generation of students who face many difficulties in order to thank the
society that did the same thing on me.
The second one is to enrich my knowledge. I did not have a lot of entertainment in my childhood and books were my best friends. And the books I read opened a whole new wonderful world for me. I strongly believe that I should follow my curiosity to learn the things of this wonderful world and to continue the dream of
exploring the world.
Szeto Nga Ching
Bachelor of Arts
Hong Kong Baptist University
My goal is to participate in the changing role of the individual in a globalized community, especially in serving the needy. According to latest data,
the Gini-coefficient of Hong Kong is 0.533, which reflects an abnormal distribution of resources. The poverty in Hong Kong is multi-dimensional. They are interlocking and can be both cause and result. I wish my knowledge can help the needy to prevent the intergenerational poverty. I am interested in understanding the arts, the
humanities and human cultures, so I decided to select the Bachelor’s degree programme in Liberal and Cultural Studies as my major, offered by the Hong Kong Baptist University. The programme aims to develop and sharpen students’ bilingual skills, enhances the crosscultural sensibilities of students. I believe studying Liberal and Cultural Studies could equip me with an interdisciplinary approach to take up careers in the different fields.
Chu Yin Lin
Bachelor of Social Science in Social Work

My goal in life is to help others. I want to do something that can bring positive effect to people’s life. For example, improving the quality of people’s live by
fighting for the basic welfare their reserved. In addition, I have a dream to work with children and youth; especially those with a history of behavioral and emotional problems. These obstacles definitely may inhibit their growth; however, proper help may change their life and benefit the society.
In order to best serve those underprivileged people, it is necessary to prepare for a specialize training in
University. I have chosen Social Work profession as a result of troubles in my own childhood as a ward of the Po Leung Kuk. I have been meeting more than ten social workers throughout my life. I could not have survived without the aid of the social workers that were so helpful to me.
This reminds me to give back to the community that
helped me so much. I know what it is like to be on the
“receiving end” of social work.
Shum Chun Yin
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
The University of Hong Kong
Everyone has his own story. As my mother has terminal colorectal cancer, I have been always accompanying my mother to go in and out of the hospitals consulting doctors and receiving cancer
treatments. When I see a patient suffering, I will remember the scene that my mum suffers. And I know how hopeless those chronic patients are.
Life is full of uncertainty so I will treasure every precious moment with my family and my friends. I will soon become a registered doctor using my
specialized knowledge and experience to help people. It is invaluable to watch a crestfallen patient become healthier as time goes with my help. This kind of
satisfaction could not be achieved elsewhere.

My goals in life are just as simple as having the opportunity to learn life-long, sharing my knowledge with others and raising my own family. But due to
my background, I wish I can do something great and different out of my little contribution to the community.
As I found that I have developed great interest in language studies and gifted with the talent, I picked the major translation and interpretation, in which I can best utilize my ability to facilitate communication between different cultures.

Lau Shan Shan
Bachelor of Nursing
The Chinese University of Hong Kong
It has long been my conviction that humans are designed for love. At every stage of life, we may have different roles to play. Yet, they are all about love and relationship. Unquestionably, my goal in life is: to love with all of my best. Darkness needs light. Hospitals are
seized with gloominess and sorrow. Love is needed desperately to heal the wounds of patients and their families. I choose to study nursing as I realized how much love has to be sowed in hospitals. Though there is little that I can do, I believe my love for them can still make a difference. That matters to patients. Becoming a nurse in the future helps to channel love and that fulfills my goal.
